Vision and Objectives of Department

The Department of Community Facilities endeavours to provide a sustainable, equitable, efficient, and cost-effective variety of services to all communities and businesses by effective management of all community facilities, including Municipal halls, the Thusong Service Centre, Sports facilities, libraries, swimming pools and Youth development.

YOUTH ADVISORY CENTRE  - 023 626 6713

The following are performed as core functions the development of Youth:

  • Initiation, development and execution of Outreach programmes
  • Conducting, performing and facilitating Career Counseling and Guidance
  • Promoting and facilitating Career Expo’s
  • Implementing HIV/AIDS Programmes
  • Facilitating career development initiatives e.g. CV Writing and Business Plans
  • Capacity building and Empowerment programmes, e.g. Leadership training, leadership and entrepreneurship skills development.

The purpose of this functional area is to:

  • Empower and equip the youth with the necessary skills
  • Engage the youth in Leadership & Business Programmes
  • Promote a healthy & positive lifestyle
  • Develop and expose the youth towards opportunities in life
  • Develop and Implement HIV/AIDS programme

Community Halls

The following are performed as core functions:

  • Managing and Operating the budget on Halls
  • Maintenance of the Halls
  • Handling reservations and tariffs;
  • Ensure the execution of Council’s Policy on Facilities
  • Access control
  • Client services and communication with the users and public

Langeberg Municipality has eleven community halls.

The McGregor Community and the Robertson Town Hall falls under Corporate Service directorate. However it is the department’s responsibility to ensure that all Langeberg Community Halls are fully utilised and well maintained to acceptable standards.

The following are performed as core functions:

  • Managing and Operating the budget on Libraries
  • Maintenance of the Libraries
  • Issueing of Books and Library material
  • Ensure the execution of Council’s Policy on Facilities
  • Ensure access to information and knowledge
  • Client services and communication with the users and public
  • Ensure access to information technology and computer training

Langeberg Municipality has nine libraries under its jurisdiction situated in Bonnievale (2), Montagu (2), Ashton (2), Mc Gregor (1) and Robertson (2)

  • Managing and operating Swimming Pools
  • Maintenance of the Swimming Pools

The following are performed as core functions:

  • Responsible to ensure that all Langeberg sports facilities are fully utilised and well maintained to acceptable standards.
  • Initiate and facilitate Sport Development
  • Managing Sport Facility Maintenance   
  • Facilitating Sport Administration   
  • Initiating  Partnerships for Sports Management
  • Identifying and including Stakeholders in sports management
  • Initiating, developing and facilitating Programmes
