The implementation of measures to address, prevent, and combat the spread of COVID-19, constantly necessitates re-adjustment and alignment to current circumstances and challenges.

The safety and protection of citizens against exposure to the virus has high priority.

Government has therefore now, as published in the Government Gazette of 31 August 2021, issued a direction which safeguards vehicle drivers against such possible exposure.

The direction grants road users extended grace to renew expired licences and permits.

All learners licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences, and professional driving permits that have expired during the period commencing on 26 March 2020, up to and including 31 August 2021, are now deemed to be valid for an extended grace period, ending on 31 March 2022.
