HUMAN RIGHTS DAY MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

Dear Residents,

As we commemorate Human Rights Day on March 21st, it is with great reverence and reflection that we honour the fundamental rights and freedoms that form the cornerstone of our society.

On this day, we pay homage to the struggles and sacrifices made by those who fought tirelessly for justice, equality, and human dignity. It serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding and protecting these rights for all members of our community.

Human Rights Day not only commemorates the tragic events of Sharpeville in 1960 but also serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to promote and defend human rights in our daily lives. It is a day to reaffirm our commitment to tolerance, respect, and inclusivity, regardless of race, gender, religion, or social status.

As we reflect on the progress made and the challenges that lie ahead, let us pledge to work together towards a future where every individual can live with dignity, freedom, and equality. Let us strive to create a society where human rights are not just a concept but a lived reality for all.

Let us use this day as an opportunity to celebrate our diversity, embrace our shared humanity, and renew our commitment to building a more just and equitable world.

Happy Human Rights Day to you all.

Alderman SW van Eeden
Executive Mayor
