Water quality report: suitable for human consumption

In response to the enquiries and complaints received on the water quality of Robertson this past few days, the Langeberg Municipal Civils department has provided the following report to residents of Robertson. On Friday 30 September 2022, water was released from the Brandvlei and was pumped via the canal from the Breederiver to the Gumgrove dam. The suspicion exists that the water already had a bad smell before it reached the dam. It may also be that the level of the dam could have aggravated this smell. Rotten plant material may also play a role in this situation. Just keep in mind that we cannot detect or test odors mechanically. Activated carbon was dosed and this is now being done continuously. It may take 2-5 days to completely return to normal due to the water already in the system. Water from other dams is also used to relieve the flow from the Gumgrove dam. The quality of water is still suitable for human consumption.
