BEWARE OF PRE-PAID ELECTRICITY TOKEN SCAM

Scammers are targeting residents with fake “cheap electricity”, discounted tokens, and bulk electricity offers on WhatsApp and other online platforms. These fraudsters ask you to make payment via Instant EFT or private bank transfer and then disappear without providing a valid electricity token.

Please be warned: There are no legitimate discounted electricity vouchers.

 Always purchase electricity from trusted and authorised vendors, such as:

• Your bank’s official app or online banking platform
• Authorised Langeberg Municipality electricity vendors (Click here to view the Langeberg Municipality authorised vendor list.)

Never buy electricity tokens from private cellphone numbers, social media advertisements, or WhatsApp groups or individuals.

Never share your meter number, banking details, PIN or other personal information with strangers online.

If you believe you have been a victim of fraud, report the matter to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
