Council has received applications from residents to fence/gate across public streets and walkways where these through-routes present a safety and security problem. It was agreed that a policy should be prepared to guide such applications and to clarify the relevant considerations when taking decisions in this regard.

The draft policy outlines the application process, content of the application, and the public participation required. The policy also outlines the relevant considerations to evaluate the merits of each application including: socio-economic impact, impact on engineering services, heritage and visual impact, traffic impacts, existing rights, and precedents and cumulative impacts.

The draft policy is available on the website at www.langberg.gov.za
