ESTABLISHMENT OF THE LANGEBERG COMMUNITY SAFETY FORUM

The Langeberg Safety Steering committee was formed, consisting of staff from the Municipality and residents from the area. Each of them contributing their knowledge, skills, and abilities to the table, for the enhancement of safety in their municipal area.
The committee conducted an extensive safety audit in all five towns of the Municipality, focussing on key priorities to make Langeberg a safer place. During this time, the steering committee was joined by Mr. Justin Lottring and Mr. Sinalo Mapoko from the Police Oversight and Community Safety (POCS), responsible for establishing Community Safety Forums within various Municipalities.
After an intensive 5 months of strategizing and hard work, the Safety Indaba was held on November 29, 2023. attended by various government departments, local business owners, tourism and NGO's. The Indaba paved the way for a well-accepted concept and Safety Plan, which ended the duties of the Steering Committee in its original form.
In 2024, the planning of the establishment of the Langeberg Community Safety Forum began, with the LCSF launched on the February 15, 2024.
The first meeting of the forum was held on May 3, 2024, establishing three clusters: Law Enforcement, Social Cohesion, and Environmental / Urban Design.
An induction and onboarding training was facilitated by Mr. Justin Lottring from POCS on June 14, 2024, providing clear objectives and understanding of their respective clusters' responsibility
The successful implementation of the Langeberg Community Safety Forum can be attributed to the committed residents, support from Langeberg Municipality and its officials, the MMC for safety, an involved and dedicated Municipal Manager, and a community with a shared goal.
