LANGEBERG LIBRARY WEEK ACTIVITIES 17 - 23 MARCH 2025
The South African Library Week (SALW) 2025 is celebrated to highlight the crucial role libraries play in a democratic society, promoting access to information, fostering literacy, and supporting community development by providing inclusive spaces for learning and social interaction, particularly with the 2025 theme focused on "Libraries for Sustainable Communities" emphasizing their contribution to sustainability and equality within communities.
Key reasons to celebrate SALW:
- Raising awareness: To educate the public about the diverse services and resources available at libraries, encouraging wider community engagement.
- Promoting literacy: Encouraging reading habits and lifelong learning by highlighting the availability of books and other materials.
- Social inclusion: Emphasizing libraries as accessible spaces for people from all backgrounds to connect and participate in community activities.
- Advocating for library support: To advocate for adequate funding and resources to maintain and improve library services.
- Celebrating librarianship: Recognizing the important role librarians play in supporting learning and community development.
