LANGEBERG MUNICIPALITY RECOGNISED FOR EXCELLENCE IN WASTE MANAGEMENT
Langeberg Municipality has received national recognition for its commitment to responsible waste management, being awarded Category 3: Effective Implementation and Reporting on Integrated Waste Management Plans (IWMPs) at the National Waste Management Awards, held during Waste Khoro 2026 in Bloemfontein.
The Municipality was recognised as one of South Africa’s top-performing municipalities for the effective implementation and reporting of its approved Integrated Waste Management Plan (IWMP). This achievement also contributed to the Western Cape Province securing eight out of ten awards presented at this year’s event.
The award was formally handed over by the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning on 22 May 2026 at the City of Cape Town Civic Centre.
Waste Khoro is South Africa’s premier waste management conference and awards platform, bringing together government, industry and environmental stakeholders to share innovation and best practices in the sector. The 2026 conference was held under the theme “Waste Infrastructure Investment Towards Equitable Sustainable Waste Services.”
The award recognises municipalities that demonstrate excellence in implementing and reporting on their Integrated Waste Management Plans, contributing to improved service delivery, environmental protection and sustainable waste management.
“This achievement reflects the hard work, teamwork and commitment of our Solid Waste Management team in ensuring the effective implementation and reporting of our Integrated Waste Management Plan,” said Mr Glenn Slingers, Manager: Solid Waste Management.
“The IWMP helps guide the Municipality towards sustainable waste management practices that benefit both our communities and the environment. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff, and we remain committed to continuously improving our services and protecting our natural environment for future generations.”
Langeberg Municipality congratulates the Solid Waste Management team on this achievement and thanks residents for partnering in building cleaner, greener and more sustainable communities.
