LANGEBERG SOLID WASTE CELEBRATED FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN PROVINCIAL RANKINGS
The Langeberg Municipality is proud to announce and celebrate the exceptional performance of its Solid Waste Management (SWM) team, which has achieved a remarkable improvement in the 2024 Municipal Waste Management Recognition Programme (MWMRP).
The team has risen from 11th place in 2022 and 2023 to an impressive 5th place in 2024, with a score increase from 59% to 84%. This achievement is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and commitment of the SWM department in delivering high-quality waste management services to the community. The MWMRP, initiated by the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, evaluates municipalities on key performance indicators aligned with the National Environmental Management: Waste Act (No. 59 of 2008).
The SWM team, under the leadership of Mr Glenn Slingers, has consistently demonstrated effort and innovation in areas such as waste minimisation, planning, and information management. Their success contributes to the overall improvement in municipal waste management across the Western Cape, where the average score rose from 66% in 2023 to 69% in 2024.
As the 2025 MWMRP evaluation period begins, Langeberg Municipality is committed to building on this momentum. Initiatives such as the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Swop Shop programme will be key components of this year’s submission, reflecting the municipality’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
