MESSAGE OF THANKS FROM THE MAYOR

On behalf of the Municipality, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the farmers of McGregor, Le Chasseur and the Bushmans River area, as well as CapeNature, private companies, and all other individuals and organizations who stood shoulder to shoulder with our firefighters from the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) and Langeberg Municipality during the recent fires in our area. 

Your swift action, courage, and generosity in providing water tractors and resources, as well as the contributions of water and food to the firefighters,  were instrumental in helping our teams successfully contain and manage the fires. In moments of crisis, it is the spirit of unity and neighbourly care that makes all the difference—and you embodied that spirit with extraordinary selflessness. 

We know that fighting fires is not only about protecting land and property, but about safeguarding lives, livelihoods, and the heart of our community. Your willingness to step forward, to share your resources and equipment, and to work tirelessly alongside our emergency services is a powerful reminder of what it means to be part of this community. 

As Mayor, I am humbled and proud to witness such a display of solidarity. You have shown us that resilience is built not only through planning and preparation, but through compassion and collaboration. For this, we thank you sincerely. 

May this season remind us of the importance of looking out for one another—checking in on our neighbours, caring for the elderly, and remembering the true meaning of community. Your actions during these fires have set an example for us all.

DANKBETUIGING VANAF DIE KANTOOR VAN DIE BURGEMEESTER 
 
Graag wil ek as Burgemeester van die Langeberg  area,  die boere van McGregor, Le Chasseur en die Boesmansrivier-omgewing, asook CapeNature, privaat maatskappye, en alle ander individue en organisasies innig bedank  vir hul hulp aan ons brandbestryders  en diè van die Kaapse Wynland Distriksmunisipaliteit, tydens die brande van die afgelope tyd.

U vinnige optrede, moed en bereidwilligheid om waterwaens en hulpbronne beskikbaar te stel, asook die bydraes van water en kos aan die brandbestryders,  was van onskatbare waarde om die brande te help beheer  en suksesvol te bestuur. In tye van nood is dit die gees van eenheid en omgee vir die gemeenskap  wat die verskil maak,  en u het dit deur u onbaatsugtige hulp en optrede bewys.

Die bestryding van brande gaan nie net oor die beskerming van grond en eiendom nie, maar ook oor die beskerming van lewens en ons gemeenskap waar ons bly.  U bereidwilligheid om te help, u hulpbronne en toerusting beskikbaar te stel, en onverpoosd saam met die noodspanne te werk,  is ‘n voorbeeld en bewys van wat dit beteken om deel van hierdie gemeenskap te wees.

As Burgemeester is ek nederig en trots om sulke samehorigheid te sien. U het vir ons gewys dat suksesvolle optrede nie net uit  beplanning en voorbereiding bestaan nie, maar ook uit medemenslikheid, empatie  en samewerking!

Hiervoor sê ons opreg dankie. 

Mag hierdie seisoen ons herinner aan die belangrikheid om na mekaar om te sien,  by ons bure in te loer, te sorg vir ons bejaardes , en ook om die ware betekenis van gemeenskap te onthou. U optrede tydens hierdie brande,  het vir ons almal ’n voorbeeld gestel.
