MONTAGU MOUNTAIN FIRE UPDATE AND CLOSURE OF R62 ROAD

Good afternoon, residents and road users

Conditions on the mountain fire have changed. Please take note of the following updates:

Fire Location:

• The fire is currently burning along the R62 between Montagu and Barrydale.

Road Closure:

• Due to the ongoing mountain fire, the R62 is CLOSED from Montagu (after the Talana turnoff) to Barrydale.
• No traffic will be allowed through this section until further notice.
• Local and Provincial Traffic officials are on scene to regulate and redirect vehicles via the Talana Road as alternative route between Montagu and Barrydale.

Emergency Response:

• Langeberg standby crews have been activated.
• Langeberg resources are being directed to Montagu.
• Cape Winelands resources from Ceres and Worcester are also moving to Montagu.
• A helicopter has been deployed to assist firefighting efforts.

We urge all residents and road users to:

• Use alternative routes.
• Keep routes clear for emergency vehicles.
• Follow instructions from traffic officials.
• Remain calm and stay updated through official Langeberg Municipality communication channels.
• For your safety, do not attempt to travel this route.
