MUNICIPAL NOTICE: SEWER PUMP BREAKDOWN IN MONTAGU SOUTH

Langeberg Municipality would like to inform the residents of Montagu, particularly those in the Montagu South area, of operational challenges affecting the sewer pumpstation 2 situated near Montagu Nursery, next to the Kingna River.

The municipality has appointed a contractor to carry out urgent repairs to the sewer pumpstation. Work has already commenced.

Status and key actions taken to resolve the challenges:

• The sewer tanker is being used to remove sewage in the interim.

• The Engineering team has installed a temporary pump arrangement until the replacement of the repaired pumps is done.

• Due to the pump failure, a sewer spillage has unfortunately entered the Kingna River.

• Cleaning and disinfecting will be done to minimize the impact on the environment as well as residents and businesses in this area. 

• The appointed contractor is doing the necessary repair and installation as emergency work.

• Completion is anticipated over the weekend, provided no unforeseen challenges arise.
