ROBERTSON HEIGHTS: CONSTRUCTION OF BULK CIVIL ENGINEERING SERVICES

The Langeberg Municipality is currently implementing underground bulk water and stormwater infrastructure upgrades in Robertson Bo-dorp. These upgrades form part of the enabling works associated with the Robertson Heights housing development, which will introduce 205 residential units and a community facility.

To ensure this development is well-supported, significant upgrades to bulk water and stormwater systems are currently underway.

Strengthening Water Infrastructure
A key component of the project is the upgrade of the bulk water system, designed to ensure a reliable and sufficient supply of potable water.

This includes:

• Installation of new bulk water pipelines connecting existing reservoirs to the broader network.
• Construction of a new pump station at Reservoir No. 2, replacing ageing infrastructure.
• Improved water transfer capacity between reservoirs to meet increasing demand.

These upgrades will not only support the Robertson Heights development but will also strengthen water supply reliability for the wider Robertson area.

This phase has commenced in January 2026 and is expected to be completed by June 2026.

Improving Stormwater Management
Effective stormwater management is essential to protect homes, roads, and public spaces. The project includes two phases of stormwater upgrades aimed at reducing flood risks and improving drainage capacity.

Phase 1: Jasmyn and Nuton Streets

• Construction of a stormwater attenuation pond to manage high rainfall events.
• Installation of new pipelines, catchpits, and manholes.
• Upgrades designed to handle storms of up to a 1-in-50-year event.
• Reduction of existing flooding challenges in Nuton Street.
• Road repairs following infrastructure installation.

This phase also improves water quality by allowing stormwater to settle before entering natural watercourses, which started in March 2026 and is expected to be completed by June 2026.

Phase 2: Sonneblom to Watsonia Streets

• Extension of stormwater infrastructure through key residential streets.
• Installation of larger capacity pipelines and drainage systems.
• Integration with Phase 1 infrastructure for a comprehensive network.

These improvements will not only serve the new development but will also enhance stormwater management across surrounding areas, reducing the risk of flooding and property damage.

Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with completion anticipated by September 2026.
