SEVERE WEATHER WARNING NOTICE: 10-12 MAY 2026

Valid: Sunday to Tuesday
The Langeberg Municipality Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management is advising all residents, farmers, businesses, and road users to remain on high alert due to expected heavy rainfall and possible flooding conditions from Sunday through Tuesday.

Expected Impacts

· Localised flooding of low-lying areas

· Rising of Breede River and stream levels

· Flooding of roads and low-water bridges

· Difficult driving conditions and reduced visibility

· Possible damage to infrastructure and property

Safety Precautions

· Avoid crossing flooded roads, bridges, or rivers.

· Do not drive through flowing water.

· Secure important documents and valuables above flood level.

· Clear stormwater drains and gutters around homes and businesses.

· Prepare emergency supplies including medication, drinking water, food, torches, and charged cell phones.

· Farmers are advised to move livestock to safer areas where possible.

· Parents are requested to monitor children and keep them away from rivers and canals.

· Motorists should travel only when necessary and exercise extreme caution.

Emergency Services Readiness

Municipal Disaster Management, Fire Services, Traffic Services, and relevant emergency response agencies will remain on high alert and continue monitoring weather developments and high-risk areas across the municipality.

Residents are encouraged to report emergencies, blocked roads, flooding incidents, or infrastructure damage to Public Emergency Communications Centre.

Never underestimate flowing water. Even shallow fast-moving water can sweep away vehicles and pedestrians.
