SUSPENSION OF IRRIGATION WATER SUPPLY EFFECTIVE 12 DEC 2025

The Langeberg Municipality wishes to inform all residents and water users in Robertson and McGregor of the temporary suspension of irrigation water supply from Friday, 12 December 2025 until further notice. This measure is necessary to safeguard the continued supply of potable (drinking) water to our communities.  

Robertson

- With the completion of the second pipeline from Gumgrove Dam to the Water Treatment Works (WTW), all canal water is now directed to the WTW.  

- As a result, no additional water remains in Gumgrove Dam, which has been the source of irrigation water.  

- Rising demand for potable water requires that all other raw water sources (De Hoop, Vrekhoek, and Koos Kok dams) also flow directly to the WTW.  

- Irrigation water will only resume once additional raw water becomes available from rainfall, rivers, dams, or boreholes.  

McGregor

- The Houtbaai River Scheme, McGregor’s only raw water source, is experiencing reduced flow.  

- Careful management and reduced water consumption are critical to ensure sustainable supply for essential needs.  

What This Means for You

- Irrigation water will not be available in Robertson and McGregor from 12 December onwards.  

- Potable water supply remains the priority to meet community demand.  

- Irrigation services will be restored once raw water levels improve.  

- No charges for irrigation water (leiwater) will be levied during the suspension period.  

We ask all residents, farmers, and businesses to:  

- Use water responsibly and avoid wastage.
