WATER RESTRICTIONS: INDIGENT CUSTOMER POLICY CLARIFICATION IN THE LANGEBERG MUNICIPALITY

Dear Residents,

It has come to our attention that the recent implementation of Level 1 water restrictions may have caused confusion regarding the status of indigent households. We would like to clarify the applicable policy.

All households—including those registered under the indigent support programme are subject to standard water tariffs for any consumption exceeding the approved threshold.

Indigent households are not exempt from paying the full tariff when their monthly water usage exceeds the set threshold of 30 kℓ under the current Level 1 restrictions.

The free basic allocation and indigent assistance apply only up to the threshold. Any water used beyond this limit will incur standard and/or penalty tariffs, in accordance with the current restriction level.

We apologise for any misunderstanding caused by previous wording and thank the community for their continued cooperation as we work together to manage our precious water resources.
