THANK YOU, LANGEBERG: A MESSAGE OF APPRECIATION FROM THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR

To the community and dedicated teams of Langeberg

Almost three weeks ago, our municipality faced one of the most severe challenges in recent history; we not only experienced a windstorm on the Monday which uprooted a lot of trees and disrupted electricity services all over our region.

On Tuesday, 12 May 2026, devastating floods swept through some of our towns and farms, testing our infrastructure, our resources and our resolve. Yet, in the face of rising waters and immense adversity, the true character of Langeberg shone through. Today, I want to extend my deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to everyone who stood in the front lines of the crisis.

To our Municipal Manager, Directors, councillors thank you for your steady leadership, rapid decision-making and round-the-clock coordination. Your ability to manage resources under extreme pressure ensured that our emergency response was swift, strategic, and effective. You kept the wheels turning when everything else threatened to stop.

To our electrical, water, parks, and social Departments You are the unsung heroes of the last two weeks. Working in treacherous conditions, knee-deep in the mud and water, our technicians and engineers braved the elements to restore power and safeguard our clean water supply.

Your relentless efforts prevented a difficult situation from becoming a catastrophic one. We owe you a massive debt of gratitude for working through the night so our residents could have dignity and essential services restored.

To Langeberg JOC (Joint Operations Committee), Gift of the Givers, community forums, neighbourhood watches, local businesses, and ordinary citizens who extended a helping hand. Thank you.

When the call for help went out, you did not hesitate. From opening your hearts and houses to displaced neighbours, to providing hot meals and blankets and a helping hand to our workers, you proved that we are more than a municipality; we are a family. Your selflessness and community spirit define the very best of who we are.

We still have a long road of recovery and rebuilding ahead of us. Roads need repair, infrastructure must be reinforced, and affected families and businesses still need our ongoing support. However, seeing how this community unites in times of crisis gives me absolute confidence that we will rebuild Langeberg to be stronger and more resilient than ever before.

Thank you for your bravery, your hard work and your unwavering dedication to each other and the community.
