WEATHER LEVEL 2 WARNING : VERY COLD, DAMAGING WIND AND WET CONDITIONS 07 - 09 July 2023

The passing of the cold front over the Western and Northern Cape is expected from Friday afternoon. This will be associated with cold, wet and windy conditions over the southern Namakwa, and the Western Cape with maximum temperatures expected to be below 10°C in some areas from Saturday through to Sunday.

Strong north-westerly winds with speed between 50-70km/h gusting up to 80km/h are expected over southern Namakwa, the eastern Cape Winelands, Central Karoo districts Friday and Saturday. These strong winds are likely to cause damage in these areas.

Impact: Damage to formal/informal settlements and some structural damage is possible. Fallen trees may affect transport routes and properties. Longer travel times are expected as well as localised problems for high-sided vehicles, especially on the N1.

Instruction: Be aware of the following: - sudden cross winds if traveling especially between buildings, fallen trees or power lines. Ensure that all temporary structures are well anchored.

The public and small stock farmers are advised that loss of vulnerable livestock and crops can be expected due to the combination of very cold, windy and wet conditions.
