ASHBURY, BONNIEVALE AND ZOLANI RESIDENTS TO BOIL TAP WATER BEFORE DRINKING

Updated 27 September 2023

As a precautionary measure, we urge residents in Ashbury, Bonnievale and Zolani to temporarily boil tap water for 1 minute to ensure the water is safe for consumption. Residents can also treat water with household chlorine bleach to disinfect water for consumption.

We continuously test water quality, and await lab results from a new sampling conducted after the weekends heavy rainfall on 26 September 2023.

THE AREAS AFFECTED:

  • ASHTON : Venter Primary, Municipality offices and Zolani
  • MONTAGU:  Ashbury
  • BONNIEVALE: Town area

Water boiling requirements:

🚰 As a safety precaution, residents should boil tap water for ⏰️ at least 1 minute to use for drinking purposes.

🥤Let it cool down and store water in clean food grade containers and keep containers covered.

 Alternative disinfection method for water:

🥄Mix one teaspoon of unperfumed household Chlorine Bleach to 20 Liters of water.

⏰Allow the mixture to stand for 2 hours.

🥤Keep the water covered with a cloth or lid to keep out flies and dirt. Your water is now safe to drink.

Langeberg Municipality will continue to test the water and monitor the quality of drinking water to inform residents when the water is again safe for consumption to a degree where precautionary boiling is no longer required.
