TEMPORARY WATER DAMMING BELOW GUMGROVE DAM, ROBERTSON

The Municipality wishes to inform residents about a water irrigation challenge that occurred yesterday in Robertson. At approximately 17:45, our Call Centre received a report regarding water damming below the Gumgrove Dam. At the same time, Cllr Johan Coetzee shared photographs of the situation. The matter was immediately escalated to our technical team.

Upon inspection, it was discovered that a gate had been vandalised, causing uncontrolled water flow. Our team acted promptly:

• The flow was temporarily halted by 20:00 last night.

• This morning, a steel gate was installed, and the channel was covered with soil to prevent leaks.

• A lock will be added to the steel gate to prevent similar incidents in the future.

We regret that we only became aware of this vandalism around 18:00 yesterday and appreciate the community’s understanding while we worked to resolve the issue.

We kindly request that any future concerns be reported to the Call Centre as soon as possible to ensure swift action.
